UAE sends 400 tonnes of food aid to Gaza

In a show of solidarity and humanitarian aid, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has successfully delivered 400 tonnes of food aid to Gaza, specifically targeting the northern Gaza Strip. This delivery, aimed at feeding approximately 120,000 people, was achieved in partnership with the American Near East Refugee Aid, as reported by the state news agency Wam.

This latest effort is part of the UAE’s ongoing commitment to providing urgent humanitarian supplies to the people of Gaza. To date, the UAE has delivered more than 31,000 tonnes of essential items, including food, relief, and medical supplies. This aid has been dispatched through various means, including 256 flights, 46 airdrops, 1,231 lorries, and six ships.

In addition to the food aid, the UAE has also initiated sustainable relief projects to ensure the continuous supply of food and water to the people of Gaza. The establishment of five automatic bakeries, serving 72,000 people, and the provision of flour to eight existing bakeries catering to 17,140 people are just some of the initiatives undertaken by the UAE. Furthermore, six desalination plants have been set up, providing water to 600,000 people daily.

Reem Al Hashimy, the Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and alleviating their suffering. She stated, “The UAE’s safe and successful delivery and distribution of food relief to the Gaza Strip, especially the northern Gaza Strip, marks a significant scaling up in action.”

Sean Carroll, President and CEO of Anera, expressed gratitude for the support from the UAE, which enabled the delivery of food aid to northern Gaza. He said, “Anera and the people we serve are extremely grateful for the support from the government and people of the UAE, that allows us to deliver this food to northern Gaza, where the needs are so great.”

The UAE’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with international partners commending the country’s dedication to providing aid to those in need. The joint effort between the UAE and Egypt to drop aid packages into Gaza was captured in striking images, showing Palestinians rushing to intercept the humanitarian supplies as they landed in the northern Gaza Strip.
