UAE Weather Department Warns of Dust Storms in Multiple Regions Following Heavy Rainfall | Global News

The United Arab Emirates is currently facing severe weather conditions as the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued alerts for raised dust and dust storms in several regions until Wednesday. According to the Khaleej Times, heavy winds have caused horizontal visibility to drop to less than 2,000 meters.

The NCM forecast predicts that northwesterly winds with speeds of up to 40km/hour carrying dust and dirt will continue until Wednesday evening. While some northern and eastern areas may experience partly cloudy skies and light rain, coastal and internal areas are expected to have fog or mist until Wednesday, with increased humidity at night.

In the aftermath of last week’s unprecedented torrential rains, the Dubai International Airport has managed to resume full operations within a week after floods disrupted thousands of passengers. The airport is now back to handling around 1,400 flight movements daily.

Dubai Airport CEO Paul Griffiths described the recent weather event as the most challenging they have faced, with 31 flights diverted to Dubai World Central (DWC). Despite the challenges, all guests at the airport were successfully supported and able to continue their travel plans by April 19.

The UAE experienced its heaviest rainfall ever after a severe thunderstorm hit the country on April 15, causing one fatality, damage to homes and businesses, and halting air travel in Dubai. The state-run WAM news agency described the rain as a “historic weather event” that surpassed any recorded since data collection began in 1949.
