The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) has taken a significant step towards strengthening the societal fabric of the nation with the launch of the ‘Positive Parenting’ programme. This initiative, part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, aims to emphasize the importance of family in the development and prosperity of Dubai’s society.
The programme advocates for a shift from traditional parenting practices to positive parenting, focusing on promoting healthy communication, dialogue, and interaction within families. It aims to support the holistic development of children and the overall wellbeing of families by providing professional development opportunities for those in childcare and educational roles.
Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mansouri, Acting Director-General of DFWAC, highlighted the scientific basis of the programme, stating that it is grounded in research from psychology and neuropsychology. The programme covers various themes such as positive communication skills, strategies for dealing with behavioral challenges, and equipping parents with skills for positive adaptation to stress.
DFWAC will oversee the implementation of the programme, which includes a series of 12 expert-led training sessions for parents, caregivers, and professionals in mental health, social work, and education. The training aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to create opportunities and support the developmental needs of children.
The programme is divided into two sessions, with topics ranging from positive parenting definitions to strategies for dealing with behavioral challenges. It also includes sessions on enhancing school success skills and managing family challenges in the context of social media influence.
On the third day of the programme, participants will explore positive care strategies for talented and exceptional children, as well as learn valuable guidance on managing parental stress and navigating daily challenges. The programme will also address the impact of social media on parenting and provide insights into dealing with peer pressure.
Overall, the ‘Positive Parenting’ programme is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive set of tools and knowledge to foster positive family dynamics and support the development of exceptional children. With the support of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, this initiative aims to strengthen the family nucleus as the foundation of a prosperous and inclusive society in Dubai.
