UBCO business students emerge victorious in simulated business competition – Kelowna News

UBC Okanagan business students are celebrating a major win at the recent Argus Cup business challenge. The Peachland Andrews team, comprised of Kelly Robinson, Philip St-Cyr, Chloe Bank, Bao Thai, and Callia Babin, took home the top prize of $3,500 at the Live Case Challenge.

The competition, organized by the UBCO Faculty of Management in collaboration with Argus Properties Ltd, saw over 230 students participate. Teams engaged in a dynamic online business simulation where they operated virtual sensor-manufacturing companies in a competitive marketplace.

Over the course of seven simulated years, students had to strategically allocate resources, target markets, and make cross-functional decisions in finance, marketing, strategy, and operations. The challenging environment pushed the teams to think critically and come up with innovative solutions.

Sandy Hilton, Dean of UBCO Faculty of Management, expressed excitement about the success of the event, now in its 10th year. Hilton highlighted the experiential learning opportunity provided by the simulation format, which encouraged collaboration, communication, and strategic thinking among the students.

Looking ahead, organizers are already planning for next year’s challenge, recognizing the importance of such experiences in helping students apply their knowledge and build essential skills. The ongoing support from Argus Properties Ltd for this initiative is greatly appreciated by the faculty and students alike.
