Austin Uecker, a senior at Sleepy Eye Public High School, has been drafted by the Helena BigHorns of the North American Tier III Hockey League. Uecker, the all-time leading points scorer at New Ulm High School, was selected in the second round with the 69th overall pick.
Uecker expressed his excitement about being drafted, stating that he had been in touch with the Helena team the night before the draft. He mentioned that the team had discussed their practice and workout plans, and he was thrilled that they wanted to draft him.
While Uecker is currently focused on high school baseball, he is also preparing for the transition to junior hockey. He acknowledged that the jump from high school hockey to junior hockey will be a significant adjustment, both on and off the ice.
Despite his excitement about the opportunity to play at a higher level, Uecker also has his sights set on playing in the NAHL or a better league in the future. He has received invitations from other teams in the NAHL and is determined to continue pursuing his hockey career at a higher level.
Uecker’s coaches and mentors have been supportive of his aspirations, encouraging him to continue working towards his goals. While the road ahead may be challenging, Uecker is determined to prove himself and showcase his skills in the competitive world of junior hockey.
