UK and India National Security Advisors collaborate on technology and security initiative during high-level discussions | Latest News from India

UK national security advisor Tim Barrow visited India for a two-day high-level dialogue with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval, focusing on the Technology and Security Initiative. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration in critical and emerging technologies between the two countries.

During the discussions, both NSAs engaged in substantive deliberations to chart out the roadmap for the initiative, recognizing the importance of leveraging technology to address shared security challenges. They also discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on regional and global matters.

Barrow also met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to discuss various bilateral, regional, and global issues. Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting Barrow and reviewing the progress in bilateral ties.

The visit is expected to strengthen and broaden the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK. In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then-British counterpart Boris Johnson agreed to the India-UK ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’ and India-UK Roadmap 2030 to steer cooperation for the next 30 years.

Last month, UK PM Rishi Sunak announced that Gwyn Jenkins, one of the country’s top generals, will succeed Barrow as the next national security adviser. Jenkins, currently the vice-chief of the defence staff, has previously worked at No. 10 Downing Street and brings a wealth of experience to the role.
