UK Foreign Office releases list of countries where travel is not recommended, tourists prohibited from entering certain nations

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The UK Foreign Office has issued a ‘no travel’ list of 24 countries, effectively banning Brits from visiting these destinations. The list includes some familiar names as well as a few surprises, with the Foreign Office strongly advising against all but essential travel to these blacklisted countries.

Among the countries on the list are Afghanistan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Niger, North Korea, Palestinian territories, Russia, Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Yemen. The Foreign Office has described the situation in Afghanistan as “extremely dangerous” and “volatile”, while also warning of a “heightened risk of being detained” in the country.

Brits are also advised against all travel to Russia due to its ongoing invasion of Ukraine, with the situation there deemed “unpredictable”. It is crucial for travelers to check Foreign Office travel warnings before heading abroad, as traveling against their advice could void travel insurance and limit consular support.

Despite the warnings, some Brits have fond memories of their travels to these destinations. One individual reminisced about their visit to St Petersburg in 2019, praising the stunning sights and friendly people. Another highlighted the beauty of the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood in St Petersburg, expressing a desire to return once the current conflicts are resolved.

As the Foreign Office continues to monitor the situation in these countries, it is essential for travelers to stay informed and prioritize their safety when planning international trips.
