UK pediatrician criticizes US for being ‘out of touch’ with current trans procedures

Renowned UK Pediatrician Criticizes US Medical Professionals on Transgender Interventions for Minors

Dr. Hilary Cass, a top pediatrician in the United Kingdom, recently published the “Cass Report,” which has sparked controversy and debate regarding the treatment of trans-identified minors. In her report, Dr. Cass urged caution when it comes to hormonal and surgical interventions for young people suffering from gender dysphoria.

According to Dr. Cass, medical professionals in the United States are “out of date” when it comes to such practices. She conducted a thorough investigation that involved interviewing minor patients, transgender-identifying adults, detransitioners, advocacy groups, and clinicians. The report prompted the National Health Service in the UK to advise gender clinics to implement a pause on first appointments for those under 18.

Dr. Cass highlighted the lack of long-term studies examining the use of puberty-blocking drugs and cross-sex hormones on minors, stating that the evidence supporting these interventions is “remarkably weak.” She advised extreme caution when prescribing such hormones to young people.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Endocrine Society have downplayed the findings of the Cass review, with Dr. Ben Hoffman of the AAP stating that politicians have inserted themselves into the exam room, which is dangerous for both physicians and families.

Dr. Cass emphasized the need for a more holistic approach to treating minors struggling with their gender identity, cautioning against a politically driven medical system. She believes that the US medical system has failed these young people and is overwhelmed by the growing demand for gender-related healthcare.

As the debate continues, it is clear that the issue of transgender interventions for minors is complex and requires careful consideration from medical professionals and policymakers alike.
