In a daring overnight drone attack, Ukraine claims to have destroyed at least six Russian military planes at an airbase in the southern Rostov region. The attack, one of the largest in weeks, involved firing more than 50 drones at Russian territory, according to Russia’s defense ministry.

A security source in Kiev revealed that the assault on the Morozovsk air base resulted in the destruction of six Russian planes, with another eight heavily damaged. The source described it as an important special operation that would significantly reduce the combat potential of the Russians, attributing the attack to the SBU security service and the military.

While there was no immediate response from Russia, the defense ministry stated that 44 of the 53 drones fired by Kiev targeted the southern Rostov region, which houses major military sites including the command headquarters for the offensive.

This escalation in aerial strikes by Ukraine comes as they aim to disrupt Russia’s supply of fuel and equipment for its invasion. Recent attacks have targeted military sites, energy facilities, and even an oil refinery in the central Tatarstan region, over 1,000 kilometers from the shared border.

As tensions continue to rise and both sides engage in fierce combat, the situation remains volatile. Russian-installed authorities in occupied areas of Ukraine reported casualties from Ukrainian drone attacks, while Russian forces are said to be advancing on a town in eastern Donetsk region. The conflict shows no signs of abating as both sides dig in for a prolonged struggle.
