Ukraine Conflict: Zelenskyy Raises Alarm over Russian Progress, Kharkiv Attack Fatalities Increase, Calls for Peace Talks

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The death toll from a bombing in Kharkiv has tragically risen to 14, following a devastating attack on a DIY store in the northern Ukrainian city. The bombing, carried out by Russian forces, also left 43 people injured, according to Kharkiv governor Oleh Syniehubov.

Russian troops have been making significant advances in the Kharkiv region, capturing villages and aiming to get within artillery range of the city. More than 11,000 people have been evacuated from the area since the start of the Russian offensive on May 10.

In response to the escalating conflict, Ukrainian forces have been actively repelling Russian advances in the eastern Donetsk region. Russia has launched extensive missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting many threats, but some missiles and drones have caused damage.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for a peace summit in Switzerland next month, urging world leaders like Joe Biden and Xi Jinping to attend. The summit aims to gather international support and solidarity for Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict.

Zelenskyy has also warned of increased Russian military activity near Ukraine’s northern border, particularly around the Sumy region. Ukrainian forces are on high alert, working to prevent further Russian advances and protect key cities from artillery range.

As the international community remains vigilant, Ukraine continues its defensive operations and braces for potential escalations in the conflict.
