Ukraine Invites Ghana to Global Peace Summit to End War

Ukraine has extended an invitation to Ghana to participate in a Global Peace Summit in Switzerland aimed at finding a solution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine following the Russian invasion. The invitation was made by Ukraine’s Special Envoy to the Middle East and Africa, Dr. Maksym Subkh, during the opening of the Ukrainian Embassy in Accra.

Dr. Subkh emphasized the importance of developing a common peace framework to restore peace in Ukraine and expressed hope that Ghana would join in implementing the Peace Formula. He highlighted the historical relationship between the two countries, noting the mutual trust and friendship that have characterized Ukrainian-Ghanaian relations.

The visit of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to Accra in October 2022 and the meeting between the Ukrainian and Ghanaian presidents at the World Economic Forum in Davos have strengthened cooperation between the two nations. Dr. Subkh also highlighted the potential for economic collaboration, with Ukrainian manufacturers offering high-quality goods and services to Ghana at competitive prices.

In response, Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, reaffirmed Ghana’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and condemned Russia’s aggression. He emphasized the promising economic and trade relations between Ghana and Ukraine, expressing a commitment to enhancing bilateral ties once stability is restored in the region.
