Ukraine raises alarm over fresh Russian troops deployment as NATO countries relax restrictions on weapon usage

The war in Ukraine continues to escalate as Russia increases its troop concentration in the Kharkiv region, where significant advances have been made in a spring offensive. Ukraine’s army chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, revealed on Thursday that Russia is bringing in army units from other parts of Ukraine to supplement forces in the towns of Vovchansk and Lyptsi.

In response, Ukraine has also moved reserve troops into the area. However, delays in US military aid and Western Europe’s inadequate military production have hindered crucial deliveries to the battlefield, allowing Russia to exploit the situation and make advances in the region.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemned Russian disinformation efforts and hinted at the possibility of allowing Ukraine to use US-supplied munitions to strike inside Russia. Several NATO governments are now publicly arguing that Ukraine should be allowed to attack Russian territory with weapons provided by Western allies, marking a potential shift in the bloc’s policy towards the conflict.

Norway and Denmark have expressed support for Ukraine’s right to defend its territory by attacking Russia inside its borders. France is expected to send military instructors to Ukrainian training centers, while the US is reportedly close to signing a new bilateral security deal with Ukraine to improve their relationship.

As tensions continue to rise in the region, the international community is closely monitoring the situation and considering new strategies to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
