Reading Time: 2 minutes

In the world of technology, this week has been filled with surprising developments and major announcements. From the launch of a budget-friendly smartphone in Kenya to the struggles of tech giants like Tesla and Apple, the tech industry is experiencing a whirlwind of changes.

The most eye-catching news of the week came from Itel, a smartphone manufacturer, who unveiled their latest flagship device, the Itel S24, in Kenya. Priced at just KES 14000, the Itel S24 boasts impressive features such as a 6.7-inch LCD HD+ screen, MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra chipset, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage. This affordable smartphone is set to make waves in the market with its high-end specifications at a budget-friendly price.

On the other hand, Tesla, the American automaker, faced a 36% drop in EV sales in the first quarter of 2024, leading to a 25% decrease in share prices since January. To combat this decline, Tesla announced layoffs of 14000 workers and halted development of its gigacasting technology. The company’s struggles reflect the challenges facing the electric vehicle market as a whole.

Meanwhile, Apple also experienced a decline in sales, particularly in China where iPhone sales fell to 15.7% market share. In contrast, Huawei saw a 70% jump in sales, driven by the success of the Pura Series. Despite the drop in iPhone revenue, Apple’s Services segment saw a 14% surge, highlighting the company’s diversification strategy.

In the midst of these challenges, Microsoft made significant investments in Malaysia and Indonesia, totaling $3.9 billion over the next four years. The tech giant aims to boost cloud and AI infrastructure in these countries, signaling a strong commitment to the Asian market.

Overall, the tech industry is facing both opportunities and challenges, with companies like Itel and Microsoft making bold moves to capture market share and drive innovation. As the landscape continues to evolve, tech enthusiasts can expect more exciting developments in the weeks to come.
