Enfield High School’s Lukas Phimvongsa is a force to be reckoned with on the tennis court. The senior has never lost a regular-season match in his high school career, boasting an impressive 58-0 record as of Thursday. However, despite his dominance in the regular season, Phimvongsa has yet to capture a State Open title, falling short in the semifinals the past two years.
Ranked No. 1 in New England by USTA in 18-under and 36th nationwide, Phimvongsa is determined to make this year his year. With his eyes set on the state title, he is focused on bringing home a championship for Enfield.
Phimvongsa’s father, Pho, who was also a standout tennis player, has been his coach since he was young. Drawing inspiration from his father’s success, Phimvongsa has honed his skills on the court, developing a powerful serve and a love for volleying.
Despite the pressure of maintaining his undefeated record, Phimvongsa remains composed and focused on his goal. He has worked on the mental aspect of his game, ensuring he reacts consistently to every point, win or lose.
Beyond his individual success, Phimvongsa has taken on a leadership role within the Enfield tennis team, mentoring younger players and fostering a positive team dynamic. His dedication to the sport and his team has not gone unnoticed by his coach and peers.
Heading to Brown University in the fall to continue his tennis career, Phimvongsa remains humble and focused on enjoying his senior year. With his sights set on a State Open title, Phimvongsa is determined to make his mark on the tennis world and leave a lasting legacy at Enfield High School.
