United Airlines flight forced to abort takeoff after engine catches fire and emits smoke at Chicago airport

A United Airlines flight faced a terrifying ordeal at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport when one of its engines caught fire, forcing the plane to abort takeoff. The incident, which occurred on Monday, was captured in a dramatic video showing thick smoke billowing from one of the wings as the aircraft was on the taxiway.

United Flight 2091, bound for Seattle with 148 passengers and five crew members on board, was towed back to a gate after the engine burst into flames. Passengers were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

Passenger Ivan Paloalto, who filmed the harrowing scene from inside the plane, described hearing an explosion and feeling the impact on his window before seeing the engine on fire. The Federal Aviation Administration temporarily halted arrivals at the airport until regular operations resumed.

United Airlines stated that the engine issue was promptly addressed by first responders, and passengers deplaned normally. The airline is working to make alternative travel arrangements for affected customers.

The incident at O’Hare International Airport was not the only travel disruption over the Memorial Day weekend, as travelers at JFK International Airport also faced delays due to powerful thunderstorms in the area.
