Prairie View A&M University Celebrates 142nd Spring Commencement Convocation
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (May 13, 2024) – Prairie View A&M University recently held its 142nd Spring Commencement Convocation, a grand event that saw over 10,000 attendees gather at the William “Billy” J. Nicks, Sr. Building for three ceremonies on May 10-11, 2024. The ceremonies honored graduates from the university’s 11 colleges and schools.
A total of 918 graduates were recognized, including 770 recipients of bachelor’s degrees, 134 recipients of graduate degrees, and 14 recipients of doctorate degrees. The keynote address to the graduate students was delivered by PVAMU President Tomikia P. LeGrande, while Phil Griffith, the vice president of United Airline’s Houston hub at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), delivered the keynote address to the undergraduate students.
Griffith shared inspiring words with the graduates, emphasizing the importance of their achievements and the bright futures that lie ahead. He encouraged them to reflect on their growth and the valuable lessons learned during their time at Prairie View A&M University.
As a successful leader with 36 years of experience, Griffith shared five key pieces of advice for the graduates as they embark on their future endeavors. He highlighted the importance of building strong teams, knowing oneself, finding mentors, planning careers strategically, and embracing innovation and perseverance.
In his closing remarks, Griffith likened the graduates’ journey to a flight, with each individual equipped to navigate challenges and reach their destinations successfully. He expressed confidence in the Class of 2024 and their ability to make a positive impact on the world.
