United MileagePlus appears to be reducing the value of first-class partner redemptions

United Airlines MileagePlus members are in for another disappointment as the airline announces a major mileage devaluation, particularly affecting first-class redemptions with partner airlines like All Nippon Airways and Lufthansa. This news comes less than a year after United’s previous award price increases, leaving loyal customers feeling the pinch.

For those dreaming of experiencing the luxury of Lufthansa’s first-class cabin or planning a trip to Europe, the cost of redemption has skyrocketed. Previously priced at 121,000 miles one-way, seats in Lufthansa’s first-class cabin now cost a whopping 154,000 miles, marking a 28% increase for flights between the U.S. and Europe.

But the devaluation doesn’t stop there. Flights between the U.S. and Japan on ANA-operated flights have also seen a significant increase, with first-class seats now priced at 242,000 miles one-way, up from the previous 121,000 miles. Even flights from Honolulu to Japan have jumped from 121,000 miles to 181,500 miles.

While some ANA flights still appear to be available at the old redemption rate, clicking through to book reveals the inflated prices. This sudden spike in award prices has left many MileagePlus members disappointed and questioning the future of their loyalty program.
