In a groundbreaking move to address Indiana’s low community college transfer rate, Ivy Tech students now have more opportunities to seamlessly transition to the University of Indianapolis (UIndy). The university recently announced guaranteed admission for Ivy Tech students who have completed an associate degree in certain qualifying majors with a GPA of at least 3.0.

UIndy is offering direct transfer pathways for students in 11 majors, including biology, business, and social work, with the added incentive of at least $16,000 in merit scholarship money. This initiative aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable for students looking to further their academic pursuits.

Furthermore, UIndy announced that Ivy Tech honors students meeting specific criteria will be guaranteed admission into the university’s prestigious Ron and Laura Strain Honors College. These students must have earned an associate degree and an honors diploma from Ivy Tech with a GPA of at least 3.3, making them eligible for an additional $1,000 scholarship.

Ben Houston, UIndy’s assistant director of admissions, emphasized the seamless transition for Ivy Tech students, highlighting the personalized support and class sizes that mirror their experience at Ivy Tech.

This program not only benefits Ivy Tech students but also addresses the national trend of low community college transfer rates. By providing clear pathways and financial incentives, UIndy is paving the way for more students to successfully transfer and earn a bachelor’s degree. Students interested in these programs must apply to UIndy as transfer students to take advantage of these guaranteed admission opportunities.
