Reading Time: < 1 minute

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas celebrated a momentous occasion as over 3,700 Rebels graduated during the spring commencement ceremony at the Thomas and Mack Center. This marked a 7% increase in graduates compared to previous semesters, with students hailing from 44 states and 50 countries.

Among the graduates was 23-year-old Christian Shelton, who stood out as one of the outstanding graduates. Shelton, who earned a Bachelor’s in music with a concentration in vocal performance, wowed the crowd by singing the national anthem during the ceremony. Reflecting on the challenges faced during his education, including the pandemic and a campus shooting, Shelton praised his classmates for their resiliency and positivity.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the memory of Emilee France Barker, a talented dancer pursuing a dual degree in dance and production, who tragically passed away in a car crash in February. Her husband, Chris Barker, and mother, Christine France, walked the stage in her honor, holding up a photo of her and accepting her diploma.

Nursing graduate Amanda Hill expressed her hope for the future as she looks for local hospital jobs, preferably working with children or in the emergency room. With a strong desire to help others and honor her family’s support, Hill reflected on the amazing experience she had at UNLV.

Since its establishment in 1964, UNLV has awarded a total of 176,442 degrees, showcasing the university’s commitment to education and the success of its graduates.
