UOG to Launch First Doctoral Program in Education in Fall 2024

The University of Guam is breaking new ground with the approval of its first online doctoral program, the Doctor of Education in Instructional and Academic Leadership. This program, approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Senior College and University Commission, aims to develop scholar-practitioners who will integrate professional experiences with research and theory to improve educational practices within their cultural contexts.

UOG President Anita Borja Enriquez expressed her excitement for the program, stating, “This new doctoral program is our commitment to advancing education, elevating the focus on research agendas relevant to our region, and addressing improvement to instructional areas and overall educational leadership.”

The School of Education Dean Alicia Aguon highlighted the program’s unique cultural competency tailored to the needs of educators and school systems across the region. With nearly a thousand respondents expressing a need for a program focused on instructional and academic leadership, the EdD program is set to make a significant impact.

The program, consisting of 20 required courses and a total of 60 credit hours, includes the dissertation as part of the coursework. It is expected to take four years to complete without pausing, with up to 25 students projected for the inaugural cohort launching in Fall 2024.
