Update on Mark Wood’s injury status for England in the T20 World Cup

England’s T20 World Cup preparation hit by washed-out games

With two out of three games in their series against Pakistan washed out, England’s preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup has been far from ideal. Mark Wood expressed his disappointment, stating that the team felt “deflated” after Tuesday night’s abandonment. The final match of the series at The Oval on Thursday is also under threat from the weather, adding to the frustration.

Wood, who was hoping to test out his left knee in the abandoned Cardiff match, has not bowled competitively since March. The lack of match practice is a concern for the fast bowler, especially with less than a week until England’s opening match against Scotland in Barbados.

Despite the setbacks, Wood remains optimistic about the team’s chances. He highlighted the importance of match practice and the benefits of spending time together as a squad. The team has been working with psychologist David Young to fine-tune their approach for the tournament.

Reflecting on their successful preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup, which they won, Wood acknowledged the different challenges they face this time around. He emphasized the need for adaptability and fresh legs going into the tournament.

Wood’s flexibility and willingness to play alongside Jofra Archer, if needed, demonstrate the team’s unity and readiness to face any challenges that may arise during the tournament. Despite the uncertainties surrounding their preparation, England remains focused on putting their best foot forward in the T20 World Cup.
