US and Australian surfers likely missing in Mexico found dead

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Mexican authorities are conducting forensic tests after discovering three dead bodies in a well in Baja California state, which are believed to be the missing American and two Australian tourists. The bodies were found following a days-long search for Australian brothers Callum, 33, and Jake Robinson, 30, as well as American Carter Rhoad, 30.

The trio had been on vacation surfing near the popular tourist town of Ensenada, located about 90 minutes south of the U.S.-Mexico border on the Pacific coast. Baja California’s state Attorney General Maria Elena Andrade stated that the bodies found in an advanced state of decomposition at the bottom of a well over 15 meters deep match the physical descriptions of the missing tourists.

“Andrade said that while the three bodies were found in an advanced state of decomposition at the bottom of a well more than 15 meters (50 ft) deep, ‘some physical descriptions give us that high probability’,” the report stated.

Additionally, a fourth body was discovered in the well, but it had been there for a longer period and is not believed to be connected to this case. The tragic discovery has left authorities and the families of the missing tourists devastated, as they await the results of the forensic tests to confirm the identities of the deceased individuals.
