US insists on waiting for jury verdict before commenting on alleged plot to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

The United States has made it clear that the investigation into the alleged plot to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is still ongoing and has yet to be proven before a jury. The US State Department emphasized that they will not comment on the matter until the allegations are proven in a court of law.

Pannun, who holds American and Canadian citizenship, is known for his anti-India rhetoric and has made threatening statements against top Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The US has accused 52-year-old Indian national Nikhil Gupta of being involved in the alleged assassination attempt on Pannun.

Gupta, who is currently in custody in the Czech Republic, was arrested and detained on June 30, 2023, under the extradition treaty between the US and the Czech Republic. A Czech court has ruled that Gupta can be extradited to the US to face charges related to the alleged plot.

Meanwhile, Indian authorities are conducting their own investigation into the matter. The external affairs ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that a high-level inquiry committee set up by New Delhi is still looking into the information provided by the US regarding the alleged plot.
