Iowa City West High School has once again been named the top public high school in Iowa, according to the latest rankings by U.S. News and World Report. The school received an impressive overall score of 96.45 out of 100, securing its position as the best high school in the state and 626th nationally out of 25,000 public high schools.
The rankings are based on various key metrics, including college readiness, state assessment proficiency, graduation rate, and underserved student performance. Iowa City West excelled in these areas, with high percentages of students taking and passing AP exams, as well as demonstrating proficiency in mathematics, reading, and science.
Notably, three schools from the Iowa City Community School District made it to the top 10 list, with Liberty High School ranking fifth and Iowa City High School coming in at No. 10. Superintendent Matt Degner expressed pride in the district’s achievement, attributing it to the dedication of students, educators, and the community.
