Flagler and Volusia County high schools have shown significant improvements in the latest U.S. News & World Report annual rankings. With almost 25,000 public high schools reviewed nationwide, these schools have exceeded last year’s numbers in various categories.
In Flagler County, Flagler-Palm Coast High School and Matanzas High School both saw improvements in their state and national rankings. Flagler-Palm Coast High School moved from 344 to 300 in the state ranking and from 6,526 to 5,739 in the national ranking. Matanzas High School also showed progress, moving from 318 to 302 in the state ranking and from 6,202 to 5,751 in the national ranking. Additionally, the county’s iFlagler-Virtual Franchise made its debut in the rankings, placing 498 statewide and 11,839 nationally.
In Volusia County, all high schools were included in the rankings, with Spruce Creek High School leading the pack by ranking in the top third of public Florida high schools. Deltona High School saw the largest increase in state rankings, moving from 419 to 321, and Mainland High School also showed improvement. However, the rest of the high schools in Volusia County dropped in both state and national rankings compared to last year.
Overall, Florida ranked fifth in the nation for high school excellence, with 52 schools in the top 5%, 116 in the top 10%, and 242 in the top 25% nationally. Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County had the highest number of top-rated public high schools in the state. The top 20 high schools in Florida for 2024 were also listed, showcasing the state’s commitment to providing high-quality education and preparing students for future success.
