US Official Announces Delivery of Aid to Gaza from Recently Repaired US-Built Pier

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The newly repaired American-built pier in Gaza has successfully delivered much-needed aid to Palestinians, following a series of setbacks. The pier, constructed by the American military, was damaged in high winds and heavy seas on May 25 but has now been repaired and put back into operation.

On Saturday, approximately 1.1 million pounds of humanitarian aid were delivered to Gaza via the pier, providing essential supplies to those in need. This delivery comes amidst ongoing conflict in the region, with Israel conducting a heavy air and ground assault that resulted in the rescue of four hostages taken by Hamas.

The damaged pier had been a significant obstacle in the effort to provide aid to Gaza, with previous attempts disrupted by crowds and logistical challenges. However, Vice Adm. Brad Cooper expressed confidence in the ability to increase aid deliveries through the pier, aiming for 1 million pounds every two days.

Relief agencies have been advocating for the reopening of land routes to facilitate aid distribution, as the situation in Gaza remains dire. The U.N. has warned that over 1 million Palestinians could face severe starvation if hostilities persist.

President Joe Biden’s administration had initiated the construction of the pier as part of efforts to provide assistance to Gaza. Despite initial setbacks and cost estimates, the successful delivery of aid demonstrates the importance of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian crises.
