The USC men’s tennis team ended their regular season on a high note with a clean sweep victory over Utah. The Trojans, with a 7-15 record, defeated Utah, who stood at 3-19, with a score of 4-0 at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City on Sunday, April 21.
The Trojans dominated the match by winning both the doubles point and all three singles matches that were completed during the dual. USC made a strategic move by changing their doubles lineup, which proved to be successful as they secured the point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
Freshman Volodymyr Iakubenko set the tone for the Trojans with a strong start in the singles matches, winning his set 6-0 and eventually defeating Utah’s Dylan Applegate 6-0, 6-4. Junior Peter Makk and senior Lodewijk Weststrate also secured victories in their singles matches, contributing to USC’s overall win.
With this victory, USC now looks forward to the Pac-12 Tournament where they will face the No. 2-seeded Arizona team on Thursday, April 25 at Libby Park in Ojai, California. The Trojans will aim to carry the momentum from their recent success into the tournament as they continue their quest for a championship title.
