USC Upstate Collaborates with USC Union and Union County School District for Innovative Fast-Track to Teaching Program

A new educational pathway has been established for Union County students, thanks to the collaboration between the University of South Carolina Union (USC Union), the University of South Carolina Upstate (USC Upstate), and the Union County School District (UCSD). The newly launched Union County Fast-Track to Teaching initiative aims to provide students with a streamlined path to obtaining a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or middle-level education.

Chancellor Bennie L. Harris, Ph.D., of USC Upstate expressed excitement about the initiative, stating, “We are creating a pathway where students can pursue their passion for education efficiently and with excellence.” The program will allow UCSD students to pursue an associate degree through USC Union via dual enrollment while still in high school, and then seamlessly transition into a bachelor’s degree program at USC Upstate in their chosen field of education.

One of the key benefits of the Fast-Track to Teaching program is the financial support available to students. Tuition for the dual enrollment coursework with USC Union will be covered by Lottery Tuition Assistance Program (LTAP) funds, and qualified students can utilize the LIFE Scholarship and the SC Teacher Loan program to cover the cost of tuition for the final two years at USC Upstate.

Students in the program will also have the opportunity to complete practical and student teaching experiences in Union County schools or schools in the Spartanburg area. Additionally, they may have the chance to complete bachelor’s level coursework from USC Upstate on the USC Union campus. This initiative not only provides a clear pathway to a career in education but also offers valuable hands-on experience in local schools.
