Utah Tech entrepreneurs receive a boost from Sandbox program – St George News

Utah Tech University is paving the way for aspiring tech entrepreneurs with its participation in the Sandbox program. This innovative initiative, founded by tech entrepreneur Chris Crittenden, aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the competitive tech industry.

Selected as one of only four institutions in the state to offer the Sandbox program, Utah Tech is inviting students to embark on a year-long journey of developing a tech startup under the mentorship of experienced industry leaders. The program not only provides valuable hands-on experience but also offers 18 college credits upon completion.

Aaron Davis, associate dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Utah Tech, emphasized the program’s focus on commitment and dedication. Students are expected to dedicate a minimum of 25 to 30 hours per week to building their companies, showcasing their determination to succeed in the tech world.

With a rigorous selection process that culminates in a hackathon, Sandbox ensures that only the most dedicated and driven students are accepted into the program. The results speak for themselves, with Sandbox-backed companies raising over $60 million in funding and six companies making it into the prestigious Y Combinator accelerator program.

As Utah Tech’s involvement in Sandbox continues to grow, the program aims to not only enrich students’ educational experiences but also make a significant impact on the regional tech ecosystem.
