Two Uvalde High School doubles teams made their mark at the Class 4A Region IV tennis tournament on May 9, bringing home third-place medals in their respective categories.

Allison Goggans and Marquez Lopez secured a 6-3 and 6-4 victory over Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway’s Ally Leonard and Seth Rosson in the mixed doubles third-place match. Meanwhile, Hope Dube and Elizabeth Phillips faced a tough loss against Fredericksburg’s Angela Lopez and Gabrella Sifford in a play-back match for second place in the girls’ doubles competition.

Despite the loss, Dube and Phillips showed their strength by defeating Bellville’s Sarah Lischka and Emersyn Novicke in the match for third place.

UHS head tennis coach Nolan Pritchard expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “Bronze was the color of the day for Uvalde, as we won third place in girls’ doubles and mixed doubles. Our kids competed well against some really good opponents. I am proud of how well we played.”

In the semi-finals, Dube and Phillips faced the eventual regional champions, Kennedy Carson and Lillian Kate Carson of Wimberley, and were defeated with scores of 6-1 and 7-5.

Overall, the Uvalde High School doubles teams showcased their talent and determination at the tournament, earning recognition for their impressive performances on the court.
