Philip Barbour’s MacKenna Halfin Named West Virginia Volleyball Player of the Year
WHEELING — The 77th annual Victory Awards Dinner, sponsored by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association, is set to honor the state’s top sports achievers and personalities on May 5 at River City in Wheeling.
One of the major award winners to be recognized at the event is MacKenna Halfin from Philip Barbour High School, who has been named the state’s Volleyball Player of the Year. Halfin’s outstanding performance on the volleyball court has earned her this prestigious recognition.
The event will also feature the induction of 2024 W.Va. Sports Hall of Fame inductees Kenny Griffith and Bruce Meredith. Griffith, a Wellsburg High School graduate, made a name for himself as a national college basketball record-setter and Small College All-American. Meredith, a graduate of Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, became West Virginia University’s first rifle national champion and a two-time All-American who competed in four Olympic Games.
Other notable award winners include Dom Collins from Princeton, who received the Kennedy Award for Prep Football Player of the Year, and Rashad Reid from Martinsburg, who received both the Sam Huff Award for Top Defensive Player and the Stydahar Award for Top Lineman.
Tickets for the Victory Awards Dinner are now on sale until April 29, with advance ticket sales required. The event is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased for $35 each.
