A Boeing 737 aircraft carrying 85 passengers skidded off the runway at Dakar’s airport, resulting in ten injuries, as reported by Senegal’s transport minister. The Air Sénégal flight, operated by TransAir, was en route to Bamako with 79 passengers, two pilots, and four cabin crew when the mishap occurred.

Minister El Malick Ndiaye confirmed that ten individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while the remaining survivors have been provided accommodation in a hotel for rest. A night-time video circulating on social media purportedly shows the plane, adorned with the logo of Senegal-based airline Transair, resting on grass with its wing covered in fire-suppressing foam.

The incident prompted a probe at Blaise Diagne airport, where the Transair-owned Boeing 737-300 chartered by Air Senegal skidded off the runway while preparing to depart for Mali. Emergency protocols were activated to evacuate passengers, and the airport remains closed, with plans for reopening expected within the next few hours.

This incident adds to a series of recent aircraft mishaps, including a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 evacuation in Turkey due to a burst tire during landing and a FedEx Express Boeing 767 cargo plane’s emergency landing in Istanbul. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in these incidents, emphasizing the importance of safety measures in air travel.
