York Regional Police are on the hunt for a suspect involved in an auto theft investigation after a shocking incident in Toronto last month. The suspect was captured on video running over a police officer in East York on April 30.

The incident unfolded at around 7:30 a.m. when York Regional Police located two stolen vehicles in the area of Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive. Two suspects were found at the scene, with one being arrested after a brief foot pursuit. However, the second suspect decided to make a daring escape.

In a video released by police, the suspect can be seen accelerating towards an officer who was sprinting towards the vehicle. The officer was struck by the vehicle, hitting the windshield and being sent flying over the top of the SUV. Miraculously, the officer sustained only minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The suspect then crashed the stolen vehicle into a building before fleeing the scene on foot. Police have described the suspect as a brown male with a thin build, black hair, and standing approximately five feet, eight inches tall. They have released a photo of the suspect and are asking the public for help in identifying him.

Meanwhile, the other suspect, identified as 18-year-old Toronto resident Ahmed Abdul-Wasee, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses related to the theft. The search for the second suspect continues as York Regional Police work to bring him to justice.
