Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter, has expressed his gratitude and honor upon winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Orange Cap. Kohli’s achievement has sparked a frenzy on social media platforms.
In a statement following his win, Kohli said, “Extremely honored to win the orange cap this season. It was a rollercoaster of a ride. I was really pleased with the way I performed for the team, especially in the latter half, where we needed to win every game to qualify. Thank you everyone for your support.”
The 35-year-old cricketer made history by becoming the first Indian batter to secure the Orange Cap twice in the prestigious T20 competition. Kohli amassed an impressive 741 runs in 15 matches during the 17th edition of the tournament, surpassing the 700-run mark.
This marks Kohli’s second time winning the Orange Cap in the IPL, with his first win dating back to 2016 when he scored a remarkable 973 runs, a record that still stands today.
Despite Kohli’s outstanding performance, RCB faced backlash on social media after their defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL eliminator. Fans criticized the team’s over-dependence on Kohli and their inability to secure a competitive total in the crucial match.
The defeat ignited a heated debate online, with former cricketers like Kris Srikkanth advising RCB to focus on their performance rather than extravagant celebrations. The disappointment of RCB’s loss has left fans eagerly awaiting the team’s next season in pursuit of their maiden IPL trophy.
