Vladimir Putin responds to speculation about Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine conflict | World News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has made a significant statement regarding the use of nuclear weapons in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. During the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin responded to a question about whether Russia should hold a “nuclear pistol to the temple” of the West over Ukraine. Putin emphasized that there is no need to resort to nuclear weapons to secure victory in the region.

“The use is possible in an exceptional case – in the event of a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. I don’t think that such a case has come. There is no such need,” Putin stated. He also highlighted the increasing effectiveness of Russia’s armed forces and did not rule out potential changes to the country’s nuclear doctrine.

Putin’s remarks come amidst growing concerns about the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine into a nuclear war. Russia has recently put former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on its wanted list, adding to the list of Ukrainian officials and NATO country lawmakers already targeted. This move reflects the heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with the inclusion of key figures like Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former President Petro Poroshenko.

As the situation in Ukraine remains volatile, Putin’s stance on nuclear weapons and the ongoing conflict will continue to be closely monitored by the international community. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
