Walmart’s Sam’s Club in Arkansas Implements Artificial Intelligence Exit Technology

Sam’s Club is revolutionizing the shopping experience with the introduction of artificial intelligence and a new camera system to scan customers’ receipts at the door. This innovative technology is now in use at over 120 Sam’s Club locations across the country, aiming to streamline the checkout process and enhance customer convenience.

The AI-powered system, unveiled during the Walmart keynote at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, captures images of customers’ carts at the exit and verifies if all items have been paid for. This eliminates the need for employees to manually check receipts, allowing customers to leave the store faster and with minimal hassle.

Todd Garner, the chief product officer for Sam’s Club, emphasized that the goal of the new exit archways is to provide a seamless shopping experience for members. By combining this technology with the Scan & Go mobile app, customers can enjoy a near friction-free checkout process, simply walking out of the store without any additional steps.

Customer feedback played a significant role in the development of this new exit experience, with Sam’s Club stating that the technology will help customers leave the store 23% faster. The company plans to implement this technology in all of its clubs by the end of 2024, further enhancing the overall shopping experience for its members.
