Warren G. Harding’s Baseball Team Begins Season Undefeated | Latest News, Sports, and Job Updates

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Warren G. Harding High School’s baseball team is off to a blazing start this season, boasting a perfect 4-0 record despite some early struggles with pitching and defense. The Raiders have relied on their potent offense to secure wins in close contests, showcasing their resilience and never-say-die attitude.

Head coach Andrew Burnett had initially identified pitching and defense as the team’s strengths, but it’s been the bats that have stolen the show so far. The Raiders have scored an impressive 34 runs in just four games, with key victories coming in dramatic fashion.

In their season opener, Harding overcame an 8-4 deficit in the seventh inning to stun defending champions Lakeview with a 9-8 win. Subsequent games against Bristol, Jefferson Area, and Canton McKinley saw the Raiders continue their offensive onslaught, scoring double-digit runs in each outing.

While the offense has been firing on all cylinders, the defense has been a cause for concern, with the team allowing 26 runs and committing numerous errors. Coach Burnett attributed the defensive lapses to a lack of focus and the team’s youthful infield lineup.

Despite the challenges, Harding’s young shortstop and pitcher, Gummy Hart, has emerged as a standout performer, delivering clutch plays on both sides of the ball. The team’s hot streak, however, faces a potential setback due to inclement weather causing game cancellations.

Looking ahead, Harding faces a tough schedule with back-to-back games against formidable opponents like Warren JFK, Hubbard, and Mathews. Coach Burnett sees this stretch as a test for his team’s maturity and a chance to prepare for the postseason.

As the Raiders gear up for their upcoming matchups, the focus remains on maintaining their winning momentum and fine-tuning their game for the challenges ahead. With a mix of talent, determination, and a never-say-die attitude, Warren G. Harding High School’s baseball team is poised for a successful season.
