Brainerd High School’s senior tennis player, Matthew Moraghan, showcased his skills in the Section 7-2A Team Tournament, leading the Warriors to a 7-0 victory over St. Francis. Moraghan, who previously went to state as a freshman, defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-1, setting the tone for the team’s success.
As the No. 5 seed in singles for the upcoming Section 7-2A Individual Tournament, Moraghan expressed his excitement and determination to make the most of his last playoffs. Despite the pressure of being Brainerd’s No. 1 singles player, Moraghan remains focused and prepared, ready to take on any challenge.
Under the guidance of head coach Garrett Goeden, Moraghan and his teammates delivered impressive performances in the tournament. Brady Johnson, Nick Moraghan, Clark Haglin, Owen Robertson, Sawyer Riffle, George Campbell, Shawn Marcussen, and Gavin Jacobson all contributed to the team’s victory with their exceptional skills on the court.
Looking ahead, the Warriors will face Duluth East in the next round, aiming to avenge their previous loss. With a newfound confidence and improved skills, Moraghan and his team are determined to give their best effort and perform at their peak in the playoffs. The team’s success in the tournament serves as a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
