Wasim Akram criticizes Hardik Pandya’s leadership at MI, expresses solidarity with Rohit Sharma: ‘A common issue in Indian cricket’ | Cricket

Legendary Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram has come out in support of Mumbai Indians’ new captain Hardik Pandya amidst the backlash the all-rounder has been facing from fans. Ever since Pandya took over the reins from Rohit Sharma for the IPL 2024 season, he has been under immense scrutiny and criticism.

Akram, known for his astute observations, expressed his disappointment with the way fans have been treating Pandya. He emphasized the need for patience and support for the young captain, stating, “There is no point booing your own player. You can criticize a little bit, but move on.”

Pandya, who has struggled to find form both as a player and a captain, has faced hostile reactions from fans in Gujarat, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Under his leadership, Mumbai Indians have had a rough season so far, with three wins and five defeats in eight matches, placing them eighth in the standings.

Akram also questioned the decision to replace Rohit Sharma as captain, suggesting that the transition could have been handled better. He opined that Rohit should have continued as captain for one more year, allowing Pandya to take over gradually in the future.

As the debate around Pandya’s captaincy continues to simmer, Akram’s words of wisdom and support may serve as a much-needed morale boost for the embattled skipper. It remains to be seen how Pandya and the Mumbai Indians bounce back from their current challenges in the remainder of the IPL season.
