Webster City High School’s tennis team had a strong showing at the North Central Conference tournament in Fort Dodge on Wednesday. Allie Severe and Alivia Burns stood out by securing silver in doubles after a hard-fought battle throughout the day.
Severe and Burns advanced to the finals after defeating St. Edmond’s Ava Andrew and Cambree Lunn in the semifinals. However, they faced tough competition in Iowa Falls-Alden’s top-seeded duo, Joslin Johnson and Aubrey Johnson, in the championship match.
Despite falling short in the finals, Severe and Burns showcased their skills and determination, earning praise from their coach, Mark Fisher. Fisher commended the team for their hard work and improvement throughout the season, emphasizing the growth and progress they have made.
In addition to the success in doubles, Kinzey Koestner finished fourth in singles, with Cyra Christensen placing sixth. The doubles team of Morgan Hackbarth and Hailey Brim also performed well, securing seventh place.
Looking ahead, the Webster City team is gearing up for the Class 1A individual regionals in Waterloo on Monday. The competition will include teams from Boone, Waterloo Columbus, Dike-New Hartford, and others, providing another opportunity for the Lynx to showcase their talent and continue their impressive season.
