Seattle Central’s Weightlifting Club Offers Students a Path to Fitness Success
Finding the balance between college coursework and maintaining a fitness routine can be a challenge for many students. However, at Seattle Central, one student-led fitness club is helping students achieve their fitness goals while juggling their academic responsibilities.
The Weightlifting Club, led by Vice President Franklin Wetzel, meets once a week at the Mitchell Activity Center (MAC) to discuss agenda items, upcoming events, and engage in presentations on weightlifting and fitness-related topics. The club provides students with guidance from certified trainers and competitive powerlifters, giving them the tools they need to succeed in their fitness journey.
Wetzel emphasizes the importance of resistance training in a fitness regimen, citing studies that show the benefits of retaining muscle mass on cognitive performance, mental and emotional health, and long-term wellbeing. The club aims to bring diversity to the practice of weightlifting, welcoming students of all fitness levels to join and learn from like-minded individuals.
When it comes to diet, Wetzel encourages intuitive eating, emphasizing the importance of consuming foods that make you feel energized and happy. The club is open to students of all fitness levels, regardless of prior experience, with Wetzel noting that weightlifting is for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.
