Welsh business owner named national champion at FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards

HJH Commercial Consultants, a Welsh business based in Deeside, has been recognized as the UK’s best start-up business by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). The prestigious Start-Up Award was presented to HJH Commercial Consultants at the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards 2024, held at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

The company, which started with a single employee, has now grown to a team of 20 Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers serving the renewable energy, utilities, and civil engineering sectors. Their success is attributed to their innovation, commitment, social values, and pursuit of excellence.

Dylan Johnson, director at HJH Commercial Consultants, expressed his gratitude for the award and highlighted the importance of diversity in their industry. He acknowledged the contributions of their diverse team, including business development manager Rebecca Harrison, who has played a significant role in the company’s success.

The company’s focus on sustainability is evident in their commitment to using local materials and workforce, with 80% of their resources sourced locally. They aim to work collaboratively with local councils, businesses, and communities to build a sustainable future for the next generation.

The FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards brought together representatives from over 140 small businesses and self-employed professionals across the UK. The event recognized winners in various categories, including Innovation, Young Entrepreneur, Sustainability, Diversity & Inclusion, and more.
