The 2024 Youth Voices for Change Summit in Accra, Ghana, brought together West African youth to advocate for innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and technology-driven solutions to regional challenges. The summit, which concluded on June 6th, saw young leaders presenting a compelling case for the establishment of innovation hubs and increased investment in digital entrepreneurship.

One of the key demands from the youth was the creation of innovation hubs across ECOWAS member states to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship among young people. They also emphasized the importance of integrating training in new technologies into school curricula to prepare youth for the digital economy.

The summit highlighted the youth’s commitment to using social media for job creation and advocacy campaigns, as well as their readiness to combat cybercrime and terrorism. The event received support from stakeholders such as USAID, WANEP, UNOWAS, and DANIDA, who recognized the importance of youth involvement in policy discussions.

Amb Francis Njoaguani of the ECOWAS Commission reaffirmed the Commission’s support for youth-led initiatives, while Mr. Constant Gnacadja stressed the need for continued engagement of West Africa’s youth for sustainable development.

The outcomes of the summit are expected to shape the region’s approach to digital innovation and youth empowerment, paving the way for a brighter future for West African youth. The event served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and partnership, highlighting the importance of collaboration in driving regional economic growth, peace, and stability.
