West Ham preparing for early transfer activity

West Ham United is gearing up for a busy summer transfer window as they aim to make significant changes to their squad ahead of the upcoming season. The club is looking to sign two to three players by the end of June, a departure from their usual slow approach to transfers in previous summers.

The domestic transfer window is set to open on June 14th, with the international transfer window following suit on July 1st. West Ham’s new recruitment team, led by Tim Steidten, has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that deals are completed as early as possible.

Already, the club has seen some movement in the transfer market, with Thilo Kehrer being sold to Monaco for £9m and Lyon having an option to buy Said Benrahma for £15m, pending approval from French football authorities.

Southampton is reportedly interested in signing Flynn Downes for £12m, which could help West Ham recoup the money they paid for him in July 2022. Additionally, several players, including Kalvin Phillips, Angelo Ogbonna, Ben Johnson, and Divin Mubama, are set to leave the club following the end of their contracts in June.

Manager Julen Lopetegui is keen on strengthening the squad, with a focus on signing two centre-backs and a striker. The club aims to have a full squad of 25 players, with a requirement of eight homegrown players. However, with several players set to depart, West Ham will need to make strategic signings to meet this quota.
