Western emerges as champions in this year’s KSSSA Term One games

The Western region emerged victorious in the recently concluded Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) Brookside Term One games, with Rift Valley and Nyanza following closely in second and third place. The games, which featured six disciplines including basketball, hockey, rugby 15s, athletics, swimming, and handball, showcased the incredible talent of hundreds of participants from across the country.

In the boys basketball final, Dr Aggrey High School from the Coast Region clinched the title by defeating Agoro Sare from Nyanza in a thrilling match that ended 56-54. Meanwhile, Butere Girls successfully defended their title in the girls basketball category by defeating Buruburu Girls from Nairobi 49-43.

In other highlights, Moi Girls Kamusinga triumphed over Kwanthanze in handball, and St Luke Kimilili emerged victorious over Hospital Hill in challenging conditions due to heavy rainfall. All Saints from Eastern caused an upset in Rugby 15s by defeating defending champions Butula 12-10.

The Western region dominated the hockey category, with Tigoi Girls beating Nyamira 2-1 and Musingu overpowering St Anthony Boys 3-2. The games culminated in a closing ceremony led by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, who commended the participants for their sportsmanship and discipline.

KSSSA Chairman Kipchumba Maiyo praised the championships for promoting talent, unity, and solidarity among participants. The winners will go on to represent Kenya in Jinja, Uganda later in the year. The event was well-organized and supported by Brookside, with hopes for more corporate involvement in the future.
