WGAU: UNG Softball and Tennis Teams to Host NCAA Regionals

The University of North Georgia is gearing up for an exciting week of NCAA Division II regional play, with the softball and women’s tennis teams hosting games on home turf. The men’s tennis team will also be hitting the road for their postseason matches.

In softball, the Nighthawks have had an impressive season with a record of 47-10, earning them the No. 2 seed in the Southeast Regional. They will be facing off against tough competition from Francis Marion, Columbus State, and Flagler in a four-team pod from May 9-11. Head coach Mike Davenport expressed his excitement for the opportunity to host the regional games and praised his team for their hard work and success this season.

Meanwhile, the women’s tennis team, ranked third nationally, will be hosting their own regional tournament at the UNG Tennis Complex. With a record of 22-1, the Nighthawks are looking to continue their winning streak and advance to the NCAA championship in Florida later this month.

On the men’s side, the Nighthawks earned the No. 3 seed in the Southeast Regional and will be competing in Columbus, Georgia. Ranked 10th nationally, the team will face off against Augusta in their first match, with the hopes of advancing to the NCAA championship.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be an action-packed week for UNG athletics, with fans eagerly anticipating the outcomes of these regional tournaments.
