What drives Kate Middleton’s love for tennis?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Princess Kate’s love for tennis is no secret, with her frequent appearances at Wimbledon and her role as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She has even been seen on the court with tennis pro Emma Radacanu. But what is it that fuels the royal’s passion for the sport?

According to psychotherapist Naomi Magnus, watching someone excel at a particular activity can inspire others to try it themselves. This concept of modeling is evident in Princess Kate’s love for tennis, as she often watches matches and even took her daughter, Princess Charlotte, to Wimbledon in 2023.

Aside from the inspiration she draws from watching the sport, Princess Kate likely also appreciates the fitness benefits that come with playing tennis. Personal trainer Amanda Place confirms that tennis requires strength, agility, and endurance, making it a great workout for overall fitness and athletic performance.

Tennis also helps build upper body strength, improve cardiovascular endurance, and enhance agility and reaction time. Tim Benjamin of the fitness app WithU notes that tennis-based workouts are comparable to HIIT training, offering a mix of cardio, speed, agility, and balance.

With all these benefits in mind, it’s no wonder Princess Kate continues to enjoy playing tennis and instilling a love for the sport in her family. Here’s hoping she gets the chance to hit the court this summer and continue reaping the rewards of her favorite racquet sport.
