“American Idol” continues to narrow down the competition as the top 12 contestants battled it out for a spot in the top 10 on Monday night’s episode. The top 10 was revealed at the end of the show, leaving two contestants eliminated from the competition.

The episode focused on Billboard No. 1 hits from over the years, with the top 12 working with pop singer Meghan Trainor to prepare for their performances. The two contestants who were eliminated were Jayna Elise and Roman Collins, as the show moved forward with the top 10 singers.

The top 10 contestants still in the running for the “American Idol” crown are McKenna Faith Breinholt, Jack Blocker, Mia Matthews, Sam “Kayko” Kelly-Cohen, Will Moseley, Abi Carter, Kaibrienne Richins, Emmy Russell, Julia Gagnon, and Triston Harper.

Viewers had the opportunity to vote for their favorite contestants during the top 12 round, with the voting window open from 6 to 8 p.m. MDT. Fans could vote online, through the “American Idol” app, or via text message.

Next Sunday, April 28, the top 10 contestants will perform for a spot in the competition’s top eight, with the episode featuring songs from their birth years. The competition is heating up as the remaining singers fight for their chance to become the next “American Idol.”
