Who was Max Azzarello? The US man who self-immolated before Trump trial

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A man identified as Max Azzarello set himself on fire outside the New York court where Donald Trump’s hush money trial was set to begin, throwing pamphlets containing conspiracy theories in the air before immolating himself. Azzarello, who had traveled from Florida to New York, is currently in critical condition.

The pamphlets contained links to a newsletter titled “The Ponzi Papers” where Azzarello shared theories connecting crypto billionaires, Bill Clinton, Jeffrey Epstein, Rob Lowe, and others to an “apocalyptic fascist world coup.” A manifesto written by Azzarello outlined his theories and reasons for the extreme act of protest.

Days before the incident, Azzarello was seen protesting outside the courthouse with a sign that read “Trump is with Biden and they’re about to fascist coup us.” Videos of Azzarello reading parts of his manifesto and calling for a revolution have since gone viral.

A photo of Azzarello with Bill Clinton has also surfaced on social media, with reports that Azzarello had sued Clinton and other influential figures in a conspiracy theory-filled case that was dismissed last year.

Police have labeled Azzarello as a conspiracy theorist and are investigating the incident. Despite his critical condition, Azzarello is still alive. The shocking act has sparked discussions about mental health, extremism, and the impact of conspiracy theories in society.
