Why I Won’t Be Subscribing to EA Play Again After the Price Increase

EA Play subscribers around the world are feeling the pinch as EA announces a price increase for its subscription services. The standard EA Play subscription, which used to cost $4.99 monthly or $29.99 yearly, will now set you back $5.99 monthly or $39.99 annually. Meanwhile, the premium EA Play Pro subscription has increased from $14.99 a month or $99.99 yearly to $16.99 a month or $119.99 annually.

While a dollar or two increase may not seem like much, the percentage increase relative to the original price is significant. For example, the base EA Play subscription has seen a 20% increase in monthly cost and a 33% increase in annual cost. EA Play Pro prices have also jumped, with a 13% increase in monthly cost and a 20% increase in annual cost.

The price hikes are not limited to the US; other regions are experiencing even more substantial increases. In the UK, prices have gone up by 50% for the base EA Play subscription and 80% for the annual subscription. South African gamers are facing an 85% increase in the monthly price for the base subscription and a 117% increase in the annual price.

With no new features or perks added to justify the price increase, many subscribers are questioning the value of EA Play compared to other gaming subscriptions. Some are opting to cancel their subscriptions and switch to alternatives like Xbox Game Pass, which offers a more extensive game library and additional perks for a similar price.
